What does a proofreader do?
Proofreading involves the obvious correcting spelling and grammar mistakes, but also checking syntax and sentence structure. In a more in-depth proofreading task, I can also correct methodological or story structure issues according to the required format or desired effect.
Proofreading FAQ
What languages do you offer proofreading services in?
As English and French are both my native languages and as I am proficient in both when it comes to writing, I can work on either language for the same price.
What texts do you proofread?
I can work on a wide range of texts, including:
- Resumes and cover letters
- Academic texts: dissertations, abstracts, articles, publications, etc.
- Fiction, creative writing and non-fiction
- Scripts and dialogue for a video game, play, short or film
And many more! Do not hesitate to submit your text and ask for a free quote, or shoot me an email if you have questions.
How do you go about it?
I usually read the whole text first without editing anything.
I then read another time correcting sentence structure and writing style using Markup on Microsoft Word, or by writing what I've corrected in a different color.
Lastly, I correct spelling, grammar, and typography with the help of a software (Antidote 11) before a final format and layout check.
I can then move on to either translating or narrative consulting, as required.
